According to the literature, the incidence of respiratory complications in the perioperative period remains quite high. The most common complications are usually pneumonia and respiratory failure, as a result of bronchial obstruction. A large role in the development of respiratory complications played the presence in the history of chronic respiratory disease, severe comorbidities, the type of anesthesia, as well as features of surgical intervention. Assessment of risk factors for perioperative respiratory complications helps the doctor to identify modifiable factors and prepare the patient for the planned operation. This review discusses the main causes of respiratory complications in patients undergoing surgical intervention of various sizes, as well as possible ways to prevent and correct them.
