Combined drug therapy of post-traumatic osteoarthritis

As part of the original research we performed magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with the technique of color T2-mapping of cartilage for the verification in the dynamics of structural changes of the cartilage of the knee joint in the early stages of post-traumatic knee joint osteoarthritis. It was found that a significant importance at this stage of the disease is not only the formation of osteophytes but also a decrease in the number of bonds of the collagen-proteoglycan complex and water molecules, reflected by such an important parameter as a change in the relaxation time of the T2-signal, which is detected by the T2-mapping technique.
During the 6-month study, we evaluated the influence of combined schemes of osteoarthritis therapy with the disease-modifying drugs on the clinical manifestations, as well as on the MRI-parameters of the early stages of the disease. Combined therapy with the usage of chondroprotective action drugs leads to a significant clinical improvement according to the questionnaires and slows the progression of chondrogenesis according to the MRI data with the usage of color T2-mapping of cartilage.
