Abstract. The purpose of the study was to estimate the content of some classes of lipids in blood serum and their prognostic potential in the development of early atherosclerosis (AS) in primary osteoarthritis (OA) patients.
Material and methods. 184 patients with primary OA were included in the study. Indicators of lipid spectrum and apolipoproteins (Apo) metabolism were studied.
Results. It was revealed that the levels of low density lipoprotein cholesterol and triglycerides (TG) were significantly higher comparatively to control group in all patients with OA, and reached maximum values when OA and AS were combined. Significant differences in the TG content were recorded in patients with OA, depending on the intima-media complex (IMC) thickness. A strong positive correlation between the IMC thickness and the value of the atherogenic coefficient was established, as well as a negative correlation between the average strength and the level of high density lipoprotein cholesterol. The concentrations of ApoB100, ApoCII, and ApoE were higher, and ApoA1 was lower in all patients with OA comparatively with those in the control group. A strong positive relationship between the IMC thickness and the ApoB100/ApoAI index was fixed.
Conclusion. Obtained information could be taken into account for dispensary observation performance of OA in order to timely identify preclinical asymptomatic stages of atherosclerosis in this category of patients.
