Secondary prevention of ischemic heart disease and PCSK9 inhibitors

Abstract. Ischemic heart disease is the leading cause of death for many years throughout the world. Use of inhibitors of cholesterol synthesis in the liver - statins was the leading method of secondary hypercholesterolemia prevention for a long time. However, on the phobe of their intake only 70% of patients got the target level of atherogenic lipids. Therefore, new and more effective lipid-lowering drugs were searched for many years. In 2015, for the first time, PCSK9 plasma protein inhibitors were approved for clinical use. Their use allows to achieve the target level of lipid parameters in more than 90% of patients.
