Asymptomatic bacteriuria is a microbiological diagnosis, often found in a female population, but its prevalence varies widely depending on age, sexual activity, the presence of urogenital disorders and concomitant diseases. When detecting BB during pregnancy, the doctor always raises the question of the need and timing of bacteriological examination of urine, its clinical significance, and the relationship with obstetric and perinatal complications. In accordance with numerous international recommendations, antibacterial therapy of ВВ in pregnant women is a standard procedure. In recent years, based on the results of clinical trials and practical experience, there has been a wide discussion about the clinical relevance of antibiotic therapy for BB in all pregnant women, regardless of the presence of risk factors. The article provides a review of the literature and existing international and national recommendations on epidemiology, a description of the main causative agents of BB, diagnostic criteria, management of pregnant women with BB, and antibiotic treatment regimens.
