Abstract. The article presents and analyzes the data of a large-scale German study on the possibilities and effectiveness of the use of phytotherapy for acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) treatment in routine clinical practice. The study included over 1 million patients who consulted general practitioners, pediatricians, and ENT doctors for acute upper and lower respiratory tract infections between January 1, 2015 and March 31, 2019. The results of the study allow us to conclude that the rational prescription of certain herbal remedies for ARVI treatment can significantly reduce the need for prescribing antibiotics in the further course of the disease, as well as reduce the duration of temporary disability of patients.
